Calculation of biologically effective doses (BED) in a Java Applet
The dose at which cells response to radiation is defined as the biologically effective dose (BED) and depends on both the total physical dose (TD) and the relative efffetiveness (RE) of this dose:
where D is the total physical dose, d is the physical dose per fraction
and α/β is the biological coefficient specific for each
tissue. α and β are the coefficient of non-repairable and
repairable damage, respectively.
The radiation survival probability (S) can be derived from the BED:
